We're not really RPG guys around here. For a game to resonate with us, it must first overcome the failings of it's own genre.

Skies of Arcadia Legends: Takes the framework of the genre and elevates it to perfection.

Terranigma: A charming guided tour through the history of humanity.
Dragon Warrior III (GBC Version): The ultimate old school.
Phantasy Star IV: Science Fiction > Fantasy.
Ogre Battle 64: I've never played this one.
Riviera - The Promised Land: Smashup that actually works.
Fallout: The story of a guy with a water chip on his shoulder.
Fallout 2: Doesn't really pick up until you start pimping out your wife.
Avernum - the ones before number four: Okay so theres no direction and two frame battle alnimations but its still good
Avernum - the ones after four: where did the two frame animations go???
Bahamut Lagoon: Or perhaps words about creatures from lagoons that are black!

Chrono Trigger: Yes. We put it in B-rank. We're rebels like that.
Phantasy Star II: Clonelabs was pretty intense for it's time.
Dragon Quest 8: Adventures, only without the jokes.
Kingdom Hearts 2: It's fun, but it still makes no sense.
Soul Blazer: Even Terranigma's predecessor was pretty awesome.
Tales of Symphonia: Getting the "Good" ending requires you needlessly slaughter an innocent. LAME.
Mario and Luigi - Superstar Saga: Mario Can do no wrong!
Super Mario RPG: Mario can do no wrong with the help of square!
Mario and Luigi - Partners in Time.: Mario can do slightly less no wrong.
Septerra Core: Limited only by the PC medium it so foolishly chose.
Grandia II: save the world through fighting demon guts one at a time.
Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic 2: Explain to me how killing annoying people is evil. I mean, come on!
Chrono Cross: What little I did play of this one taught me to hate 3D.
Shining Force: Excellent use of tactics.
Golden Sun - The Lost Age: Excellent use of sequel.

Lunar Legend: Anime'd Out.
.hack: You watch the series, you play the games, you read the manga, only to find it still doesn't make sense.
Golden Sun: Curse you, inconclusive ending!
Sigma Star Saga: Came so close to brilliance.
Mega Man X Command Mission: Never played this one. I'll assume Megaman ZX is better.
The Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind: The upside is you can do anything. The downside is you can do anything.
Phantasy Star Online Episodes I&II: Excellent while they lasted.
Kingdom Hearts: The Disney + Final fantasy actually sort of works. What doesn't work is the jumping.
