History
The Blog Game originated from Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds. At one point it is possible to play a minigame with a NPC named Blog and obtain a gem you need by swapping rocks round or something; he later made an appearance in the Etheral Void area, and played an even wackier version of the game, whereupon Blog would ask you random questions, which included options such as 'move to limbo', which is one of the more famous options in the current manifestation of the Blog Game. Thus, from this, Johnny Wallbank brought the Blog Game to the masses on various IRC and ICQ chats devoted to the game. This later became incorporated into the ECOP, and here it is.
How to play
There a few variations to gameplay, but the basic mechanics are thus:
- The Inquisitor asks a multiple-choice question (see example questions below) and determines which answer is correct.
- The player(s) make their choices.
- The Inquisitor reveals the correct answer and points are awarded.
- The Inquisitor then asks another question and the cycle repeats.
Some of the variations include:
- The role of Inquisitor may rotate among the players. The role can change every round, or the role may be split up between a few people while the rest act as players. Anyone playing the game who is not currently an inquisitor can generally make guesses as to the answer.
- Players may be on teams as opposed to playing individually.
- Score can be waived or treats can be used in lieu of points. Also differing point values can be given to questions if the Inquisitor really wants to make it that complicated.
- The Inquisitor may occasionally fudge which answer is correct. This probably happens more than you think.
Collectible Card Game
There is a CCG version of the Blog Game in the works. Its rules can be found here.
