Volition? Free Will? It is to laugh. There are no such things. With considerable effort your close your mind off to the concepts of "past" and "future", to "cause" and "effect." These are all feeble concepts clung to by mortal minds in an effort to explain a universe far too complex to understand.
One by one, you close off your senses. Sight, sound, touch, magnetoception, smell, nociception, taste, one by one they fall away and leave you drifting in a sea of non-sense. You turn off your driftoception as well and now you're not even that. You're not anything. You not.
Something, which may or may not be what is commonly known as "time," passes.
You return to yourself and open your eyes. Whatever it was that seemed so pressing before, it is gone. You stand alone in a barren windswept landscape, ready to begin a new journey.
